Fight the Good Fight

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses”.
Timothy 6:12

My friends, the day we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, our King and precious redeemer, we are entering into a battle zone.
You are called, a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and now you are in God’s army fighting for truth and righteousness.

We know Ephesians 6:12 states….

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places”.

Christianity is not a passive existence, we need to be engaged, alert and ready. If we study the book of Acts and see how the church originated in the early days it clearly shows it was by the empowering grace of God’s spirit, together with men of great faith and incredible courage. These men faced insurmountable tasks and trials. They were cursed, chased, stoned and killed, just as Jesus was, but their love and loyalty to Christ far outweighed any temporary suffering they had to endure. We too face many trials therefore we need to be steadfast in the knowledge that our God has equipped us to overcome and be victorious.

The Bible’s message does not change, it is the same today as what is was when it was written. God’s Word is never changing and if the Word says we are to do greater things than Jesus, what is holding us back ? What is keeping us from walking in that great power and effectiveness?

Fight. Picture yourself in a boxing ring. Your opponent, a serious heavy weight contender with a seemingly unlimited advantage is pounding you blow after blow.  Some of us are in that ring facing depression, debt, divorce, lust, doubt, heartache, sickness or addiction. Formidable foes they may be, unless we harness the power within us. The same power that destroyed armies and toppled kings. The same power that healed the sick and raised the dead. Whatever it is that you are fighting, know that you have been given the strength and the power to overcome.
I believe some people feel like they are in round 10 and this fight has been going on for years, it feels like it will never end. Losing hope as time passes by feeling exhausted just about ready to tap out. Some of us have been knocked down round after round but we somehow find ourselves saved by the bell each time. The truth is, we all have to face some tough opposition in life. We need to face it head on, knowing that the battle scars will fade to reveal God’s Glory. When facing this opponent, whatever it may be, know that you never face it alone. You serve a mighty God, your Heavenly Father. He is in your corner and He has your back. Jesus faced death and has overcome the world so that you can be victorious in this life. As long as you still have life and breath in you, you will always have a fighting chance, so get back up and lift those hands. Stand firm and fight for your life, fight for your salvation. After all, this is the most precious gift we have ever received and its worth fighting for.

Know that you are more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens you.

Finally for a good fight you will need the full armor of God.
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10v14

Do not let life’s battles keep you from the good fight of faith. Hold onto your faith, promises, hope and the gift of eternal life you ave been given. You are called by God, saved and redeemed so do not be distracted from His plan. When the battles come, stand firm and continue to fulfill your God given purpose in this life. The battle is yours and you have already won through almighty God’s strength. Wake up daily with the full armor of God ready for any battle, standing for truth and righteousness in strength and love.

Now get ready, be strong and fight the good fight of faith.
