Pain & Suffering.
Oh boy, these two words send shivers down my spine and make me want to run for the hills. Do you know what I mean?
Sure you do, because no one in their right mind wants to suffer.
But, the truth is, in this broken world there is and will be pain and suffering. I think the way we perceive that suffering is our perception of God, His nature and who He is. We can be wrong with our perceptions because pain can make you see things differently and not always as they really are.
Have you ever seen a loved one suffer? An overwhelming feeling of helplessness surrounds you and all you so desperately want to do is to take that person’s pain away, wipe their tears and make it all go away. Why would it be any different for God? Your Maker, your Father who loves you more than you can fathom.
While driving home one day, thinking of someone I love dearly, thoughts filled my mind. “You are God, I know you can heal brokenness, God why won’t You do something and take this pain away? Right there and then I said “Although I don’t understand this situation or my loved one’s pain, in this suffering I choose to love you God, in the midst of this because Your Word says You are good and faithful and I believe this regardless of what I feel.”
It was then that I felt the Lord show me in this pain, how much He felt for His son Jesus when He had suffered for me. Innocently, Jesus suffered for our wrongs and sins that we recklessly knowingly or unknowingly commit against our Heavenly Father. The biggest realization in this pain is that I saw how much God really loves me. To have sent His precious Son and to have seen Him suffer for my freedom and reconciliation, this is no small gesture. I mean He must really REALLY love us and I dont think that I had ever grasped that unconditional love before. It’s so sad but so many of us don’t. In my heartache, I could see this and was beyond grateful.
We are not alone when we are suffering, although that is exactly what it feels like at times. Jesus is with us, He sees every tear and He meets us in our pain. We just need to trust and bring it to Him. Not be angry as He is right there with you waiting to embrace you with His love, waiting to show you His mercy so that He can carry you through a time of pain and suffering.
A promise. Hope.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
